Hi,
I received this from a friend and had heard a lot of this before, given the recent pet food recalls. (By the way, if you have a pet affected I do have a program that may be able to help, I have a 100% success rate in saving dying animals although I have never advertised that program which is Thought Shifting(TM) for pets. But, if you pet is dying because of the pet food recall especially,or if you know someone, then feel free to contact me.)
Here is the story. This article is not only very interesting it is eye opening.

Did you know that at the end of 2006 we had imported over $2.6 billion in agricultural products from China? This is the nation that now wants to ship broiled (cooked) chicken into the U.S. aiming at another single market over $1 billion. Fortunately, advocate groups, such as the United Poultry Growers Association, are fighting the plan. Lucius Adkins, president of UPGA, has openly stated, "They're already killing our pets. Do we want to eat their food?"
This furor started in April when a significant number of U.S. household pets began suffering kidney failure and died. No one knew why healthy dogs and cats were suddenly succumbing to their pet food. After a U.S. investigation, it was disclosed by several processors in China that their wheat gluten, a filler and integral ingredient of pet food, had been "spiked" with melamine, a cheap additive that increases the protein count, but not the quality of protein. "Greed" was rearing its ugly head because melamine, a plastics additive, is much cheaper than soy, corn or wheat protein. Wheat gluten has been exported to U.S. and Canadian pet food manufacturers for several years, but the picture was now turning ugly with few answers to why the melamine addition was causing deaths.
On May 1, scientists at the University of Guelph in Canada made a startling discovery. (continued...)
In a laboratory they found that melamine and cyanuric acid reacted with each other to form crystals that could impair kidney function - crystals similar to those discovered in affected pets. Cyanuric acid, a chemical stabilizer in swimming pools, was then found by U.S. investigators to have been added by Chinese pet food producers because it was cheaper than melamine and also helped to increase protein count.
According to The New York Times of May 9, two major animal feed suppliers were found to have cheated pet food companies by adding a fake protein to the feed to make pet food manufacturers think they were purchasing higher protein feed when in fact they were lowering the protein content. But, other Chinese food manufacturers insisted that cyanuric acid is nontoxic and said they have been using it for years. Fortunately, Canadian researchers discovered the chemical reaction between cyanuric acid and melamine.
The China version of "Better Things Through Alchemy" gave rise to poisoned toothpaste in Panama, traced back to Chinese shipments. Diethylene glycol, a poisonous ingredient in antifreeze, was the culprit because counterfeiters had found it financially advantageous to substitute it for its chemical cousin glycerin, because it was sweeter and cheaper. Diethylene glycol killed at least 100 people in Panama in 2006 when it was falsely labeled as glycerin. The Panamanian government put a stop to further toothpaste importation from China.
Now for the rest of the chicken story! As stated, the Chinese government has launched a major campaign to export broiled chicken into the U.S. Their farmers toil on one acre or less whereas U.S. farmers work thousands of acres. The Chinese cage their chickens over ponds (some 20,000 can be caged) and the chicken feces is what feeds their farm-raised shrimp. The USDA has found that up to 10 percent of shrimp imported from China contains salmonella. (No more Chinese "buffets" for me.)
Discarded pet food is now causing problems for a number of chicken and pig farmers here in the U.S. who bought the contaminated meal. Some of our government spokesmen say that eating the cooked chicken or pork would not cause any problems for humans. I say, ship it back to China and let their people be the guinea pigs!
What is the rate of U.S. inspection at ports of entry of containerized shipments from China? Would 5 percent approximate the level?
So, what can we do? Well, simply focus on our food supply being one that is full of life, energy, consciousness (we eat the consciousness of food), and safe.
Warmly,
Pam
